Norma will be based in Santiago, leading Hexagon’s mining efforts in Chile and Argentina.
Hexagon has appointed Norma Vargas as the general manager of its mining division in Chile and Argentina. With an impressive track record in innovation and automation, Norma is set to drive Hexagon’s continued growth in the mining sector.
A seasoned leader with 30 years of experience in technology, including two decades dedicated to mining operations, Norma previously served as director of operations technology (OT) at Codelco. Throughout her career, she has been at the forefront of digital transformation, automation, and the implementation of pioneering mining technologies.
Norma brings deep expertise in operational technology systems, mining automation, integrated operations centres, mine dispatch and safety systems, and digital transformation strategies. Her leadership in innovation projects spans both private sector mining operations and government initiatives, cementing her reputation as a trailblazer in the industry.
An electronic civil engineer, Norma holds two master’s degrees, one from the Technical University Federico Santa María (UTFSM) in Maintenance and Asset Management, and the other, Financial Strategy, from the Adolfo Ibañez University, along with a Diploma in Strategic Leadership from the same University. She has also shared her knowledge as a part-time professor at UTFSM, mentoring the next generation of engineers.
As she takes on her new role, Norma will be based in Hexagon’s Santiago office, leading efforts to strengthen the company’s presence and impact in Chile and Argentina’s mining sectors.
